FAQ
GO GREEN! I am offering a special deal -- for anyone who would like to use a "green board" to paint on instead of a brand new canvas, you will receive a $7.00 discount on your spirited paints night!*
What is a "green board" ? Its a canvas that has been previously painted on and is primed or "gessoed"
What is gesso? Gesso is white paint-like substance that artists and manufacturers use when they make fresh canvases. The canvas material must be stretched onto a frame (called stretchers) and then must be gessoed in order to make the material non-porous and taut and ready to accept paint.
Why do you have previously painted on canvases? Julie practices (a lot) for her Spirited Paints events. She also has extra demos that she has used in class. Therefore, she ends up with many copies of the same painting.
Will this recycyled canvas affect my finished painting? No! It will look just like a new one. The gesso is carefully applied - 2-3 layers. There may be some paint on the side of the canvas, but that can easily be painted over. There may be some little bumps from previous brush strokes and most likely the old painting can be seen if you hold the white canvas up to the light, but after you paint on it, you won’t be able to see it at all. (Remember how some famous paintings have been found under layers of newer paintings?!)
Julie hopes that you will embrace a chance to help the environment and re-use something that otherwise would have to be discarded.
Please use the coupon code: Green
in the box when checking out online (with a capital G). Julie needs to know ahead of time if you are using a green board so she can bring enough.
*This offer is limited to availability.
*Although I can bring greenboards for Skillins customers, I can't offer a discount since you already receive a discount*
What is a Spirited Paints class like?
You will come and relax in a social setting, and an artist will guide you through copying the featured painting step by step. Whether you are an accomplished artist or haven’t picked up a paintbrush since kindergarten, you are sure to go home with a painting that is uniquely yours. By the end of the evening you will be amazed at the artwork you have created! The classes start at 6:00p.m. but we suggest arriving at 5:30 to grab some dinner, a glass of wine and the seat of your choice. Classes are roughly 2 - 2 ½ hours long with frequent breaks.
Do I need to sign up in advance?
Because of limited seating, signing up in advance is always recommended. You can register on the website or give us a call. Early registration is encouraged as sessions have both a minimum and maximum registration. Classes may be canceled if there is not enough pre-registrations.
What is the cost of a Spirited Paints class?
The price ranges between $25-$45 depending on the session and painting. (Some classes may be a bit more if it is a fundraiser) NOTE: If you have a promo code or coupon, they are redeemed at time of reservation, subject to one reschedule prior to expiration based on availability.
What is included in the price?
We provide each painter with a pre-stretched canvas, paint, brushes, easels, aprons and instruction. You may also order from the restaurants’ menu before your session. (food and drink not included except where noted)
What is the age limit? Sessions are adult oriented - 12 and older are permitted with parent or guardian. Must be 21 and older to consume alcohol. Drinks may be purchased from the host restaurant. Please see our website calendar for our Spirited Paints days and times. In some cases, there may be a package deal which would include dinner and a drink. Those specials will be stated in the details for that event. Gratuities are not included.
What do I wear?
While we will provide aprons, we recommend wearing something you wouldn't mind getting paint on- just in case!
What time do I need to arrive for a class?
Evening classes usually start at 6:00p.m. We recommend arriving a few minutes early to get registered and get the seat of your choice.
What is your cancellation policy? Because of our waiting list, we ask you to give us 48 hours notice if you need to cancel. Cancellations should be made via Email or by phone (207-318-5036). This provides us the opportunity to fill the space. We can't provide refunds for payment but we are happy to reschedule. We will charge the class fee for reservations not cancelled 48 hours in advance. Voucher cancellations allowed one reschedule request. No call/no shows will not be rescheduled.
WEATHER CANCELLATIONS - The Maine weather is fickle. If we get a major snow storm, and we feel that it is not safe, we will cancel an event with as much advance warning as possible. If we cancel, you will have the option to reschedule your attendance or request a full refund. If you feel that it is unsafe to drive because of the weather, we will issue your a voucher so you may attend another night for free.
When does the new schedule come out?
We try to post the schedule four to six weeks in advance. "LIKE" us on Facebook or join our email list to get a sneak peak of the monthly calendar before the online posting. Check back often, we are always adding new events.
I missed a painting that I really want to paint! How often will you repeat paintings? Please let us know! We will keep this in mind when scheduling the next month's paintings!
Can I book you for a private party?
Absolutely! Please call or email and we can talk about arrangements, places, dates, etc. We do ask that you have a minimum of 8 participants or $280 total for the afternoon/evening. Artist will provide all equipment necessary for the painting event. The artist will provide coverings for your tables, but can't be responsible for spilled paint. Artist is not liable for the consumption of alcohol at a public venue or a private home. The offering of such beverages at a private home is up to the discretion of the host/hostess.
Do you provide alcohol?
A variety of beer, wine and other drinks are available for purchase from the hosting restaurant. Spirited Paints does not provide alcohol. For Skillins evening classes, it's BYOB.
Can I BYOB?
No...not usually. Skillins is BYOB in the evening classes. Other places have drinks for purchase. We do not allow individuals to bring in outside liquor. The exception would be a private event. Please contact us for more info.
If I come with a friend or a group, can we all sit together?
We always try to seat friends and parties together... just be sure to let us know when making your reservation and we'll be sure to make the appropriate seating arrangements; and arrive early.
